    • JohnCoppedge December 21, 2017 at 8:05 pm #

Winter 17 updates are complete. There is Lightning content included in this guide – the new content (which will partially launch very shortly) is completely overhauled for Lightning.

Hello. I’m wondering if the study guide has been updated recently? I am interested in purchasing the study guide but I want the latest updates. Thank you.

    • JohnCoppedge October 25, 2017 at 2:29 pm #

Yep the site has been updated for the Summer 17 release and Winter 17 updates will be done shortly. The entire site content is also in the process of being overhauled and will include new video content and quiz questions!

    Hi John,

is Salesforce Certified Administrator (SP17) nothing but ADM201 certification or different one?

Please don’t double post- also this is addressed in the FAQ

      • Sofee1976@yahoo.com June 21, 2017 at 6:54 am #

Hi, where is a good place to learn sales force ?

          • Sofee1976@yahoo.com June 21, 2017 at 4:49 pm #

Can one learn the entire thing and not just portions that are likely to be on the exam? Is purchasing your course the same thing as learning sales force itself in depth? I was surprised to learn the cost of training for it on some sites dedicated to teaching it which is why I ask.

          • JohnCoppedge June 22, 2017 at 12:46 pm #

This site is more of a framework to learn and explore (with objectives, videos, etc.), which is a bit different than taking a class. You can certainly use this site (and thousands have) to prepare and pass the certification exam without any other resources.

          • Sofee1976@yahoo.com June 22, 2017 at 5:17 pm #

Thanks John. If i wanted to take the course online, which would you recommend ? I went to salesforce.com to see their price for admin 201 but I think they want you to call them to find out the price which I don’t want to do. Suggestions?

          • JohnCoppedge June 23, 2017 at 12:26 pm #

I generally recommend that if you want to take instructor-led training, go through Salesforce.com.

  5. tmrakesh@yahoo.com January 6, 2017 at 5:14 pm #

Is the ADM201 study guide updated to cover the latest release?

  6. amardeep October 16, 2016 at 3:33 am #

is this a sham or what? You are charging for something freely available on salesforce site. Really disappointed.
Websites is showing SQL errors. i believe you need a technical update first before charging others.

    • JohnCoppedge January 19, 2017 at 2:44 am #

There is plenty of content on this site that was produced by me and is not available from Salesforce. This site is specifically geared on preparing for certification and offers a significant portion of the content for free so that you can get a feeling of the website and see if it is right for you. Those technical issues should be resolved as well.

  7. rmillican4u2 August 19, 2016 at 4:16 pm #

Are the quizzes in sections? I’m gonna take an online certification course and would like to take these quizzes after completion of each section as I go thru the course.

    Is that possible.

    Thanks.

Since the new releases of the Salesforce platform come out several times each year, how often does the material on CoD get updated?

  10. alexdana90 April 20, 2016 at 5:49 pm #

    Hi John,

I just signed up for the free version – I’ll test it out and then purchase it – and had a couple of questions:

    1) How soon after Salesforce’s New Releases do you update your Content + Practice Questions?
    2) Do you still have 30 Exam Questions or have you bumped it to 60 (I saw a post dating back from 2014 when you mentioned that you were in the process of doing so)
    3) Are your screenshots, click paths, explanations based off of Salesforce Classic or Lightening or both? Questions about Lightening are likely to come up as it has been GA since October 2015.

    Thank you!

    Thank you!

    • JohnCoppedge June 13, 2016 at 6:25 pm #

1- shortly (varies based on my avialability)
2-still 30, I may increase it at some point but other updates have taken precedence
3-Classic. Lightning is addressed in the study guide, however

  11. bilabongster April 9, 2016 at 12:07 pm #

Will you website be adequate enough to take the Admin 201 or should we be using other content in conjunction with your website?

    Appreciate your thoughts.

    Thanks

  14. mlewenhaupt February 2, 2016 at 7:02 am #

Hi Guys totally new on this. Need some advise
as i want to purchase soon this guide.
what is the best first certification to take to became Admin
    to start on Salesforce
    201 or 202 ???

    • JohnCoppedge February 6, 2016 at 12:26 am #

      I don’t think 202 is a certification?

201 is a great place to start. Unless you are going for programmatic development, in which case I might recommend the platform developer certification.

  15. kalps January 19, 2016 at 3:03 am #

John – I would like to purchase the guide, but had a quick question – With Salesforce evolving so rapidly and making so many changes on their platform, do you update the study material and videos to showcase the current functionality ?

    -Kalps

    • JohnCoppedge January 19, 2016 at 3:16 am #

Yes, the content does get updated regularly – you can view the FAQ to see when the content was last updated.

  18. immad75 December 18, 2015 at 10:59 am #

    Hi John,

I was recommended to your site by a friedn who is preparing for the salesforce.com admin exam. Looks great. The current study guide on salesforce side is updated with the caption Winter’16. Will you update your guide or offer release notes for Winter’16 by 1 st week of Jan? I intend to take the exam by end of jan… and guess that the delta between summer’15 and winter’16 in tems of actual exam question would be only up to 5 questions or so… But of course, 5 is still important.

    Kind regards
    Immad

    • JohnCoppedge December 18, 2015 at 7:25 pm #

I am going to try to get to this over the holiday weeks- I would review the release notes and release training (when available). Lightning UI is the big change this last release.

    Hi John,
The latest info on salesforce certification site labels admin certification as “Salesforce Certified Administrator (SU15)”. Is ADM 201 and SU15 certification same? Does this cover topics for SU15 as well?

    Hi All,
I’m just curious if everyone here took a SalesForce training course and just used the CoD as supplemental material or if anyone used free resources to prepare for the exam. My organization has done away with SalesForce but it’s something I’m interested in pursuing a career in, but I have found how important certification is to success in this field. Since we no longer are using SalesForce, obviously the company will not cover any cost of training, so unfortunately I’m on my own. So I was just curious if it’s possible to self train for the ADM201 or am I setting myself up for failure? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    • JohnCoppedge June 10, 2015 at 11:53 pm #

Would love for some of the CoD audience to add their voices to this as well-

I’ll give you my impressions. The audience of CoD is highly varied. Some have taken SFDC training, some have 1+ year of experience, others are in school and looking to get certified with no experience or access to other training. I’ve seen success from all of these groups of folks. The more (and better quality) training and materials you have access to the faster you will learn.

BTW – one of the companies I used to work for got rid of Salesforce.com. That didn’t stop me from learning it, moving on, and developing an awesome career on the platform.

      Best of luck! Cheers,

      John

Does this currently cover Spring ’15? If not, any idea when it might be updated?

    Thanks!

    • JohnCoppedge April 10, 2015 at 3:54 am #

It is updated to Winter 15, one release behind. It will get updated as soon as I have time. Take the release training and read the release notes, and you will be all set in the mean time!

  32. Gabriel Ikuomola April 8, 2015 at 9:24 pm #

    Hi John,
I am glad to find your website. I am overwhelm with various information overload. I have been told you must developer401 before Admin. what is your advice. Infact I am not a programmer and would rather go towards Admin201 and Advance Admin.
Must I have to learn programming to be successful with Salesforce. I am reading/studying the Force.com developer Manual. is that a right approach or there is other manual specifically for Admin?
    I will appreciate your advice.

    • JohnCoppedge April 10, 2015 at 3:56 am #

You don’t need the dev cert to get admin certified; I generally would recommend to pursue admin first. You need only very limited programming experience for dev certification – the advanced dev cert however requires comprehensive programming knowledge.

    Hi John,

I am a new member to this web site. I see that access to all materials cost $40. Is that one time fees or monthly payments? Do you have any discounts for nonprofit organizations?

P.S. How long does it take to be prepare for the first System Admin exam?

    Thank you very much!

    • JohnCoppedge April 15, 2015 at 2:26 am #

One time fee- no discounts today, but might be something I consider for the future. Time depends on a ton variables, short answer: weeks to months.

    Hi,
I am new to this subject. I am mostly on the QA side. Which will be the best suitable course for me? How long will it take for me to understand this subject. And when is the next available exam?

    • JohnCoppedge March 12, 2015 at 7:44 pm #

Exam availability depends on your local testing center – I think can take them about any time from your home as well. Check http://certification.salesforce.com/ and then register for exam in the top right for details. Either admin or dev certification is a good starting point for QA – this site is a study guide for admin certification. Note CertifiedOnDemand.com is not affiliated with Salesforce.com.

John, a big “Thank You” for this site. While I earned my certification 4 years ago (and wish I had this resource), my team is now in process of going through the certification process. This is a great resource – and it’s not just about passing the test – users are gaining a better education that will carryover to their daily administrator life.

      G Roger,

Excellent, thanks for the feedback – glad it is serving your team well!

    Hi John,

I am based in UK and would like to purchase the the material available here. I am just wary of the fact that if I make the payment using UK card then will I be levied international transaction fees as I understand your account will be US based?

That will be a substantial overhead over $40 fees. Please advise.

    Regards,
    Ashish

    Hi John

I am new to salesforce and am planning on taking the admin exam.Is your study comprehensive ..in the sense that do i have to go through additional materials to take the exam. I have absolutely novice in this field…so do i need to read up some basics before i start reading from your guide. Also am planning on taking the exam somewhere in January.Any suggestions?..

    • JohnCoppedge November 21, 2014 at 10:52 pm #

My advice is always to use the resources that you have access to… in general my advice is:
      Salesforce in person training
      Salesforce premier training
      CertifiedOnDemand.com
Other books, web resources, study groups

This guide will point you to everything that you need to learn – you will need to spend some time configuring the org, and experimenting. This process can be accelerated with in person and other hands-on training approaches.

There isn’t an easy answer to this – I would recommend using the study guide from Salesforce.com to weight where you spend time on each subject.

I have considered adding a weighting to this site but it is not on the radar to be implemented any time soon.

Also, how about communities or portals?

Yes – communities is discussed in the Sales and Service cloud sections. Knowledge is discussed in the Service Cloud section.

    Hi

i am preparing for 401 exam, please advise if this website will help only for admins or it has help for 401 as well.

    thanks

    • JohnCoppedge January 10, 2014 at 4:43 pm #

There is probably a 70-80% overlap between the two; this site will help you prepare for DEV 401 – make sure to study the topics not covered in admin such as MVC, VF, etc.

      • Andrew Darwin January 14, 2014 at 6:51 pm #

        Hi John,

Which parts of this will help most with the Dev 401 exam ? Do you plan to have a Dev 401 guide in the future ?

        Thank you,
        Andrew

        • JohnCoppedge January 16, 2014 at 11:47 pm #

You’ll have to compare the study guides provided by salesforce to get an exact topic by topic feel for the overlap between the two. This guide should help with a significant portion of dev 401.

I have no immediate plans to release dev 401, but that will be the next guide that I focus on given time.

That’s very cool information to know. Because we need all the information and study guides available so that we can retain this information. Sometimes I think that I may have it down pat, and then once i go thru and exercise or am asked a question by my instructor I am brought back down to reality. I’m really appreciative of the information in these study guides because they help me to prepare for the big exam.
