List Views

Important Notes:

  1. List views do not impact security.  If a user cannot view a record, it will never appear within a list view.  The result is that two users can have different results appear within a list view (the same holds true for reports).
  2. Read the article Literal Date Values for Filter Criteria to learn about the various dynamic elements that can be used in list views.
  3. List view and reports – what’s the difference?  Generally speaking:  A list view is used to quickly segment, and then take action on records.  A report is used to summarize record data for analysis.

That link you provided with the listing of relative date values is incredibly helpful.

A big difference I usually explain between reports and list views is that list views can only show information from one object (i.e., contact) but if you want to pull in information from other objects (i.e., account), you would typically use a report for that. However, I have “written down” information from the account to the contact to make more meaningful list views for campaign purposes…

I logged as a normal user and create a custom List View for Contacts.
When I log again as an Admin, I can’t see that custom List View.
Is this one of the few cases that an Admin doesn’t have access to something?

    Thanks

If the list view isn’t shared (personal list view) then the admin can’t see it, correct

Ok. Is there a way as a regular user, to share these list views created by the user? I edited the list view and couldn’t find this option.

        Thanks

Is the free resource supposed to be haphazard? I’m going through it step by step and there seems to be MASSIVE jumps between sections that i am unsure as to how they were done (creating customized list, access control).

Pardon me if it just my unfamiliarity with the platform, but I am having the darnest time understanding the connections from section to section.

    Thank you kindly.

It is a study guide for exam prep- not a comprehensive training guide. If you are using this for self-learning the platform you will need to do some exploring within these sections to get value from the guide. Hope that helps!

        Appreciate the quick reply!

I am using it for the exam prep 🙂 So the areas being skipped are not very important in regards to the certification exam?

Essentially yes – the content of the site is tailored for exam prep and updated with new releases to reflect new content. If there are topics not covered then they should not be covered on the admin exam
