Campaign Influence

What is campaign influence?

Campaign influence allows you to associate one opportunity to multiple campaigns:

However:

  1. An opportunity can have only one primary campaign.
  2. Only the primary campaign influences campaign rollup summary fields on the related campaign.

Open Example

Viewing the Primary Campaign:  Num of Total Opportunities summary field includes the opportunity:

Viewing a Non-Primary Campaign:  Num of Total Opportunities summary field excludes the opportunity:

In short, campaign influence will allow you to display and report on an opportunity’s relationship with multiple campaigns, but the opportunity is only attributed to a single campaign for rollup summary and ROI calculations.

How can I use campaign influence in my organization?

Simply add the campaign influence related list to the appropriate opportunity page layout(s).

What is automatic campaign association?

When a contact role is added to an opportunity, automatic campaign association will add that contact’s campaigns to the campaign influence related list on the opportunity.

In order for automatic campaign influence to work, the following must be true:

  1. Required: Campaign influence must be enabled (Step 1 in the screenshot below).
  2. Optional: The contact role must be added within the campaign influence time frame (Step 2 in the screenshot below).  As shown, no restriction is applied.
  3. Optional: The campaign must meet the criteria specified in campaign association rules (Step 3 in the screenshot below).  As shown, no restriction is applied.
  4. Required: The contact role must be added prior to the opportunity close date.

To configure automatic campaign influence, navigate to Setup –> Customize –> Campaigns –> Campaign Influence:

You have to disable the campaign influence to be able to add it as a related list on the Opportunity Page layout. It took me a long time to figure that out. I still don’t know the reason though.

I have enabled the Campaign influence, however, the rCampaign influence related list in not available in the Opportunity page layout related lists. I have disabled the auto association rule in the Campaign influence settings. For testing, I have toggled the settings multiple times….

Any idea what could be the reason for this behavior.

      Yogesh,

Good point – so what’s happening here:

When you are using the Salesforce campaign attribution model, then you can’t modify the related list on the opportunity. This was an update from Winter 17 – I’ll check/update the materials to make sure this is clear.

      https://releasenotes.docs.salesforce.com/en-us/winter17/release-notes/rn_sales_features_core_campaign_influence2_setup.htm

Out of the box, the Salesforce influence model is selected as the primary model. Only The Salesforce model supports auto-association. Auto-association adds campaigns to opportunities automatically when the contact on an opportunity is also a member of a campaign. The Salesforce model is always locked. For a locked model, campaign influence records can only be added or edited via workflows and the API. Your users can’t add records manually in Salesforce.

I practice under developer edition, so I do not find Salesforce CRM User License under my developer edition when I create a permission set by following the link below . Even I create a custom influence model, the campaign influence does not show up under related list under page layout.

        @John:

I just tried this and can’t add the related list Campaign Influence to the Opportunity page.
Can’t really understand which “permission set” or “license” that I need,
I am using a fresh DE org under Summer 17.

        • JohnCoppedge October 2, 2017 at 12:58 pm #

If you disable campaign influence then you can add the related list… counter-intuitive.

          • CarlosSiqueira October 2, 2017 at 2:40 pm #

That is crazy! I had people all over telling me that I need a permission set and CRM license. It shows now, but how does it work on a daily basis? If you have it disabled, it shows on the Opportunity but how do you get it to work if you need to disable it in order to work? Do I have to enable it 1st, enter my Opportunity with the campaign anf then disable it ? Makes no sense…

    Hi,
Is it true that campaigns and opportunities have many to many relationship?

    • JohnCoppedge March 11, 2017 at 3:24 pm #

      Hey Sal – good question.

So there is a one to many: opportunity to PRIMARY campaign, and a many to many: opportunities to campaign.

The campaign calculations are based on the primary campaign relationship (e.g. $ of closed opps on this campaign), but you can have an opportunity related to multiple campaigns (again, no rollup calcs).

The above is true when campaign influence is not used.

Campaign influence allows you to run the calculations on a many to many relationship rather than just primary campaign.

    Hi John,

It looks like the Campaign Influence Setup page is now different to what it used to be.

You may want to update the screen-shot.

    Thanks

Have you added the related list to the layout?

      • nk005347 October 27, 2016 at 10:45 am #

Hi John, sorry for not being clear. My problem is that i don’t see the list in related lists available to be added when I edit page layout for opportunity.

        • rongdu December 17, 2016 at 3:08 am #

I have the same issue. Did you find answer?

          • JohnCoppedge December 22, 2016 at 8:47 pm #

Ah- when you turn on automatic campaign influence this is determined automatically (hence the related list is not visible).

Turning this off means that this selection is manual, and you can add the related list

            Hi John,
I disabled the automatic campaign influence, still I am unable to see the influence related list in the opportunity layout , to be added manually.

It would be very helpful if you could provide a short video, showing the steps needed to add it.

            Regards,

I’ll take a look at updating this next go around; this level of detail is probably out of scope for the exam but it would still be good to have

    Hi John,

What could be the answer for the question given below:

Which of the following is true about Campaign Influence
    A) Allows the calculation of Campaign Statistics from Associated Opportunities
    B) Allows the viewing of the complete Campaign Hierarchy
    C) Allows viewing of campaign statistics on Opportunities Related List
    D) Allows user to report on the Campaigns that influences an opportunity

      Should be d

      • willmatic July 19, 2017 at 3:32 am #

Hi. Are you sure about this? Can you explain how?

        • JohnCoppedge July 19, 2017 at 1:24 pm #

          From campaign influence:

Campaign Influence allows marketers to measure and report on multiple campaigns that have influenced a single opportunity. Influential campaigns can be associated to opportunities manually or automatically.

Once enabled, you can select the report type “Campaigns with Influenced Opportunities”

I was struggling with the concept of first associated date as I assumed that a campaign’s launch date would be more influential to a campaign’s outcome than when a contact first joined the campaign.

    Hi John,

“Campaign Influence Demo” opens a blank page. Is it my problem or is it the same for everyone?

Can you please let me know.

    Satya.

    • satyadanthuluri July 13, 2015 at 5:47 pm #

      It works Thank you.

  9. Parvez Halim May 7, 2015 at 9:40 am #

If I have an opportunity and I add a campaign as having influence on the opportunity I can see this in the Campaign Influence related list but I cannot see any reference to the opportunity on the campaign record. Is there anyway to make opportunities that were influenced by the campaign visible on the campaign record?

    Thanks!

    • JohnCoppedge May 7, 2015 at 6:17 pm #

That’s a great question – I don’t think you can do that with standard config. You would probably need a VisualForce component to pull in that list. An alternative method would be to create a button that linked to a report to pull that data.

      • Parvez Halim May 8, 2015 at 2:50 pm #

Thanks! In the short term I will put a link to the report with the aim of adding a VisualForce component later.

      • priyankataunk December 1, 2016 at 10:43 pm #

I think it’s now possible to view it within the campaign record, right? There is a related list within Campaigns for Opportunities ( as long as it’s the primary campaign source)

“Campaign Influence Demo” cuts out about half way through.

RE: December 5, 2014 at 4:45 am reply above: minor grammar (see underscores):

    ***

Let’s say a contact is created 1/1/2014, and associated to a marketing campaign 2/1/2014.

Campaign influence is limited to 90 days.

On 3/1/2014 the contact is added as a contact role [ add _to_] an opportunity – the marketing campaign is associated to the opportunity (as campaign influence is within the specified time frame).

One [should read _On_] 5/1/2014 the contact is added as a contact role to a second opportunity – the marketing campaign is not associated as it is not within the time frame for campaign influence.

  11. Tasnim Tailor June 18, 2014 at 11:00 pm #

Can you please explain Campaign Influence Time frame with an example as to when a campaign would influence and when not?

    Thanks..

    • JohnCoppedge December 5, 2014 at 4:45 am #

Hope the date format in the above mentioned example is mm/dd/yyyy. Was confused the first time I read the explanation.

  12. Andrew Nerney May 1, 2014 at 3:26 am #

    Grammar nit warning!

“When a contact role is added to an opportunity, automatic campaign associated”

    should read

“When a contact role is added to an opportunity, automatic campaign association”
