Certified Administrator: Practice Exam

This practice exam is intended to gauge your preparedness for the real exam. I encourage you to take this exam after you have completed preparing for the official exam.  However, you can retake the exam as many times as you’d like.

This is a half-length exam (30 questions).  The makeup of questions should represent a similar concentration of each topic as you will find on the real exam.

I failed the real Admin exam today for the second time. This test is impossible. I feel like jumping off a bridge. F being a Salesforce Administrator.

What were your scores by section? Is there anything I can do to help?

I know several folks that have passed the exam on their third attempt. I know it can be very frustrating – and it can be very time consuming to prepare for the exam, but is definitely achievable.

My scores were terrible. I studies every single day for hours for two and a half months. The questions on the real exam were so much trickier than any practice test I’ve taken. I have another exam scheduled in the beginning of January. I hope that’s enough time to study for it.

        Section-Level Scoring:
        Standard and Custom Objects: 22%
        AppExchange: 0%
        Security and Access: 55%
        Workflow/Process Automation: 40%
        Service and Support Applications: 62%
        Data Management: 66%
        Activity Management and Collaboration: 50%
        User Setup: 66%
        Desktop and Mobile Administration: 50%
        Organization Set-Up (Global UI): 100%
Analytics – Reports and Dashboards: 83%
        Sales and Marketing Applications: 50%

What was your score on the practice exam? How many studying hours did you put in? I’m asking because my test is next week.

    Hi John,
Thanks for a great site. I have a suggestion.

On question #26, I love editable List Views however I chose reports because there is no default Lead Status choice of “Open – not contacted” and you did not provide that as information in the setup for the question. If you had, it would have given away the answer. So perhaps you could come up with a different example that is not dependent upon a custom Lead Process picklist option….. Just a suggestion.

  3. boomix November 9, 2017 at 4:35 am #

    Hi John,

This question is throwing me off. I just did Lead Conversion and Task was by no means optional on default Lead conversion page. Opportunity has checkbox to avoid creating it. Task was required. Contact and Account are created because that is normal process for SF. Am I seeing this wrong? I guess all are on by default but opportunity can be turned off.

When a lead is converted, what records are created by default? (Select 3 answers)

    Task X
    Contact √
    Opportunity √
    Account √

When a lead is converted, by default a contact, account, and opportunity are created. A task can be optionally created as well.

    • erinmullaney November 13, 2017 at 1:01 am #

I just got the same answer wrong! I thought that Tasks, Accounts, and Contacts were created by default. According to SF documentation though (dated Winter ’18) the correct answer is Contacts, Opportunities, Accounts. I just hope I can unlearn Tasks and learn Opportunities before the test in two days!!! https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=faq_leads_what_happens_when.htm&type=5

Luck I didn’t see this question on my exam on Friday however I did see a lot of word for word questions on the actual exam. I’ve passed it this site helped a lot in combination with Mike Wheeler from Udemy.com whose 2 courses I got for $20 USD they were on sale. If you buy Mike’s guide to cert admin make sure to put speed to 1.5X otherwise it is too slow.

Thank you for your answer that makes sense if the exam were to be updated for Winter’18.

    • jisaac100 November 27, 2017 at 4:18 pm #

And that is the way we, as Certified Instructors for Salesforce , have been taught to teach this. We have a Knowledge Check question on this Module that specifically asks this question and the correct answer is only Contact and Account are created by default. Oppty is optional as stated in the comments here.

Can you help me answer this question?

What can an admin configure for users on the search results page?

    a. Columns displayed for each object
    b. Filter by which users can narrow down results
    c. Number of records displayed for each object
    d. Fields being searched on for each object
    e. Objects included in the search a. Columns displayed for each object

    Hi John,

Thanks for this amazing resource! I passed my Salesforce Administrator exam today.
The difficulty level of the exam was average. There were some questions which really threw me off.

    [edited by request]

I would advise others preparing for the exam to focus on understanding the concepts. You will fail if you don’t know the concepts fully and just memorize stuff.

John, I am looking forward to courses for Sales Cloud and Developer exam on your new website.

    Thanks again!

Is there any current/updated information about the amount of Lightning covered on ADM201?

I’ve heard lightning coverage is quite minimal today although I expect that will change. I’m in the process of retooling the curriculum to more heavily weight it but from what I’ve heard you’re Ok in the short term.

    Hi John,

Are validation rules also enforced when using Data Loader through the API?

Also regarding question 22, I’m not sure I agree with the answer based on what I’ve learned so far. Its seems creating two profiles would solve this problem better than with sharing rules. It seems using profiles over sharing rules requires less configuring, and is easier to update in the future. Isn’t it best practice to use sharing rules only when needed? Of course this is a bit subjective as it is a balancing act depending on a real life situation. Or perhaps it is better to look at it strictly between object vs record access privilege, making sharing rules the clear choice. But not so clear because profiles can still accomplish it right?

    Cheers, Phil

    • JohnCoppedge July 28, 2017 at 12:07 pm #

Yes validation rules are enforced through the API

Profiles and sharing rules do very different things – sharing rules are designed to expand record level access. Profiles are used to grant field and object access. So you have to choose the right tool depending on what type of access you need to grant. Most of the time they cannot be used interchangeably.

Hi John, may I ask why A is not right ? Thanks

The support team wants to ensure that the field “Case Origin” is populated prior to a case being closed. How can this be achieved? (Select 2 answers)
    A. Create a workflow rule to set the value in the case origin field when case status is “Closed”.
    B. Configure the support settings to ensure that case origin is required when a case is closed.
    C. Create a validation rule to ensure that case origin is not blank when the case status is “Closed”.
    D. Set the case origin field to required on the case closed page layout

    • JohnCoppedge May 11, 2017 at 11:59 pm #

I’ll think about the wording for this one – the idea behind the question is that you want the user to choose the value which is not 100% clear. Thanks for pointing this out.

  12. bgonzalez April 27, 2017 at 9:10 pm #

What is the difference between C and D

    3. When a user clicks on a dashboard component, the results displayed within the report are different than those displayed on the dashboard. Why would this occur? (Select 2)
    A. The dashboard has met its maximum data threshold.
    B. The information displayed on the dashboard component is out of date.
    C. The dashboard is configured to run as the logged-in user.
    D. The current user is not the running user of the dashboard.

    • JohnCoppedge May 11, 2017 at 11:57 pm #

C is referring to a dynamic dashboard which will display results based on whoever is logged in (this is how reports work)

A “running user” is the default dashboard setting, which specifies a named user. The dashboard results will be displayed based on the named user (the credentials supplied to determine the results that feed the dashboard). D is describing a scenario where a running user for the dashboard is specified, and the user logged in currently is someone else.

          • bgonzalez April 26, 2017 at 6:49 pm #

            25. The customer service team in your organization wants to capture emails sent to support@organization.com as cases within Salesforce. Attachments up to 5 MB must be supported. Which of the following features is ideally suited?

            On-Demand Email-to-case
            Email-to-case
            Web-to-case
            Salesforce for Outlook

          • JohnCoppedge April 27, 2017 at 12:43 pm #

Got it – the on demand version requires less complexity to configure. On-demand email to case will allow you to configure global addresses so that customers can reply directly to the inbox address e.g. support@somecompany.com – salesforce will then take the email content and add that to the case.

Email to case is designed to do this- however, the on demand version is entirely cloud based (while email to case requires a software install). Since the requirements in the question don’t mention privacy concerns (e.g. email inside your network) or >25MB attachments, email to case on demand would be the best fit.

For the first question- why isn’t B correct
When do activities appear under the “Activity History” section of the page? (Select 2 answers)
    A. Once the task status is complete.
    B. Once the event status is complete.
    C. Once the task due date is passed.
    D. Once the start time of the event has passed.

Hi John, can you explain why Report isn’t the best answer for the question #26 ? (The inside sales team frequently follows up with open leads that have not been contacted within the last 14 days. What feature of Salesforce can be leveraged to enable the team to quickly identify and contact these leads?)
Is it because a report does not notify the reps upon it’s update?
    Thanks!

    • JohnCoppedge January 27, 2017 at 10:47 pm #

Reports can do this but aren’t designed for quickly taking action on records; they are more designed for summarizing records. This is a question about which answer is “most right”

I read the following paragraph on online notes:
    1. Deleted fields will cause definitions to be deleted (permanently after 45 days)
    2. Deleted fields still count until it’s permanently removed from the recycle bin. 15 days in recycling bin.
    3. The “recycle bin for custom fields” feature gives the administrator 45 days to restore the field

Can you please explain how long Deleted Custom Fields stay in Recycle Bin. Is it 15, 30 or 45 days.
Is there a separate Recycle Bin for Custom Fields or Custom Objects

    Hi John,

On question 3, the VP of Sales (likely) sits higher in the role hierarchy than an Account Executive. Wouldn’t their position in the role hierarchy give them access to all records owned by the Account Executives?

    • JohnCoppedge December 16, 2016 at 11:19 pm #

The question order is random so unfortunately it is hard to trace it back… may consider making it a fixed order for that reason

    • JohnCoppedge December 16, 2016 at 11:23 pm #

I think this question has a “NOT” in it… yes role hierarchy would inherit access

  21. rkaundal December 4, 2016 at 5:13 pm #

    Hi John,

Got 23 out of 30 ~ 76.67% correct. Not sure if that makes me ready for the cert test, but I like to think that its a good start.

Anyways, I had a concern with question 25. The email-to-case question. I understand the difference between email-to-case and on demand email-to-case, but what in the question is supposed to lead me to ‘on demand’ vs. ‘normal lead to case’?

    Thanks!

  22. mcan7883 November 30, 2016 at 2:40 am #

    Hi, John.

On the certification exam, do the questions indicate how many correct answers you need to choose?
    For example:
Standard report types include the “Primary Competitor” field, but do not include the primary competitor’s website. How can the marketing team generate a report with the primary competitor’s website URL included? (Select 2 answers)

Or would it be open to mult-select answers for all questions?

I hope my question is clear.

Hi my exam is going to be based on the winter 17 release. so i’m wondering if the exam questions will mostly be about
Lightning ? Im very familiar with classic , but my current skills in lightning aren’t as good. im a bit worried that most of the questing will be based on the lightning experience and me failing the exam. even this study guide is for the most part based on Salesforce classic

    • jcjurisch November 16, 2016 at 9:10 pm #

Just took the exam today (and passed). I had zero questions that mentioned lightning experience with the W17 release.

Just a note as well- search “lightning” in the official study guide. Not mentioned. Do expect that will change though.

    Hi John,

I scored 90% on your mock exam, but unsure why I got the below wrong.

Surely you would set this up through the Trusted IP Ranges in Network Access and not the Login IP Ranges on the Profile?

    Thanks,

    Kam

    27. The IT staff within your organization would like to ensure that users can only login to Salesforce from authorized buildings, corporate locations, or through the corporate VPN. How can this be enforced in Salesforce?

    Trusted IP Ranges
    Activation IP Addresses
    Login Hours
    Login IP Ranges

Each location would have a set of corresponding IP address(es). Login IP Ranges are then used to prevent users from accessing Salesforce outside of these specified addresses.

    • JohnCoppedge October 26, 2016 at 1:15 pm #

Trusted IP ranges will bypass activation – login IP ranges PREVENT access from other IP ranges.

      • bycar2 January 25, 2017 at 9:59 pm #

I am still confused about the explanation. What is the correct answer and why ?
Can you also explain the difference between
        IP Login
        Trusted IP range
        When computer activation is needed

        • JohnCoppedge January 26, 2017 at 2:11 pm #

Login IP Ranges – this would prevent connection except from specified ip addresses. When you connect to VPN this can change your IP address to work appear as if you were in a corporate location

          • jaydelaune February 17, 2017 at 3:44 pm #

Thanks for the clarification – worth adding to your coaching that Trusted IP’s bypass activation/security tokens – also good to remind us re Network Access vs Profile.

This would all be easier if you were the one writing our certification exam questions 😉

“Which of the following is NOT a valid report type?”

    should read “report format”

  28. Stattman June 23, 2016 at 4:35 pm #

Very good study guide and worth the small outlay. Having been through the 30 Question Quiz achieving 75% has given me some well-needed confidence.
Some stinky questions in there to test the grey matter, so hoping that these reflect the standard on the real exam (in a few days time). After months of pontificating I just need to crack and do it… Another set of questions to make it a “full” set of 60 would be useful as a simulation of the real thing…

  29. joeyb May 11, 2016 at 1:50 pm #

First, thanks for a great study guide! The only suggestion that I could make about the practice exam is that when the answers are presented, the category that the question pertains to should also be listed.

Honestly though, that’s “splitting hairs”. The value of the guide far outweighs its monetary cost!

    Thanks again,
    Joe

  31. nerd.sfdc March 18, 2016 at 9:12 am #

When an account’s billing address is updated, the support team would like the address of all related contacts to be updated to the account’s updated address. How can this be configured in Salesforce?
Answer – This cannot be configured with standard workflow, and would require either process builder or an apex trigger to accomplish.
    Explanation –
A standard workflow rule cannot solve this requirement. A workflow rule on the account could not update the related contacts. A workflow rule on the contact could update the address from the account – however, the account being edited would not trigger the rule on the contact to fire. Therefore this would not work either.
Process builder can be used to configure a rule that would meet this criteria, as could apex code.

Query : how to identify it is not possible through standard workflow.

    • JohnCoppedge April 11, 2016 at 12:07 am #

The triggering event for standard workflow would be to create or edit a record – then you can trigger your field update.

However, the triggering event in this example is an update to the account – which could trigger a field update on the account (not the contact). In order to update the contact you would need a triggering event to take place on the contact instead, meaning you would have to manually edit and then save the contact in order for the workflow rule to execute a filed update on the contact.

  32. shivanisinghal February 16, 2016 at 10:32 pm #

    Hi John,
This is regarding the question : “Your organization’s sales team is split into two functional units: product sales and service sales. Members of the product sales team must be able view opportunities owned by other users in their department. However, each user within the service sales team should only be able to view the opportunities that they own.”
I understand that sharing rules would solve the purpose and not the profile (which I thought .. ) , but what confuses me is the explanation : ” The heart of the question is that it is deriving record level security, versus object level security”. I am unable to identify the part of the question which states that we need to provide record level access , not object level.
As per my understanding, we need to provide access to records user does not own (which is controlled by OWD & sharing rules). Whereas profile determine access to records you own. Please correct me if I am missing something .
    Thanks

    • JohnCoppedge February 17, 2016 at 1:48 am #

You’re thinking about it correctly, and you’re on the right track. The piece that talks about record level security is this: “view opportunities owned by other users” – by other users implies that this is a record level question.

  33. Kat Radzetskaya January 28, 2016 at 11:12 pm #

    Hi,

I answered question 19 correctly that Jim can delete opportunities owned by Judy. The result show my answer is incorrect. In you notes you said: Therefore, Jim can delete opportunities that Judy owns. However, Judy cannot delete opportunities that Jim owns.
The system shows the correct answer as :”Judy can delete Jim’s opportunity”. I think it should be fixed. I have a screenshot that I can share with you.

    • JohnCoppedge January 29, 2016 at 1:18 am #

      Hi Kat,

You may have missed the word “NOT” in the question?

“Which of the following is NOT true?”

Your line of thinking is correct though.

      Cheers,

I LOVE that you explain the answers so that we can learn content from the practice exam – not just learn that we had the wrong answers. I take the ADM 201 exam in just two-and-a-half weeks, and this site has been so valuable. Thank you for all your time and effort!

Heyo, I think I found a minor typo:
“Install an AppExchange package, such as DupBlocker”
    Should be “DupeBlocker”

  38. Sherry Larsen-Holmes October 1, 2015 at 2:34 am #

    John,
By your own explanation, I think that you’ve got the right answer to #19 incorrectly checked. Your explanation says “Therefore, Jim can delete opportunities that Judy owns. However, Judy cannot delete opportunities that Jim owns.” But the green check mark is by the answer “Judy can delete opportunities that Jim owns.”

And if OWD is public read/write, why is this answer wrong? “Jim and Judy can both edit opportunities owned by other users.”

    • JohnCoppedge October 2, 2015 at 3:26 pm #

The key word in the question is NOT- “Which of the following is NOT true?”

      Your thinking is correct though!

  39. Jennifer Harrell August 26, 2015 at 10:48 pm #

Hello. The Jim and Judy role question is a bit confusing because it doesn’t look like Jim is above Judy in the role heirarchy: VP of Sales |– Account Executives
To me it looks like they are at the same level.

Question 30 around account address update updating contact addresses can actually be fulfilled by Process Builder now, so the answer “Development required” is no longer correct

You may want to check out #27. Login IP Ranges are for Profiles and Trusted IP Ranges apply to the entire Org.

    • JohnCoppedge June 19, 2015 at 8:26 pm #

What was the context of the question? They are randomly ordered. Spot on how they are configured, the question should reflect this as well. I think I found the question but the answer doesn’t reference how login hours are configured, rather that they are used to prevent login, so I believe the wording on this question is correct.

  43. Ltcleve@yahoo.com June 15, 2015 at 6:53 pm #

I had issues with this one as well. I couldn’t figure out why I would need a custom report type if I also had a cross object formula. Record types are obviously a possibility for a solution but it seems not to be a “Best Practice” solution over a simple formula field.

    • JohnCoppedge June 16, 2015 at 11:01 pm #

You wouldn’t need both a report type and a custom field – either of those alone would solve the issue (assuming we are remembering the same question :))

Bummer 🙁 How did you do on this practice exam the first time around? The first thing I would try to do is identify where your knowledge falls short – then focus your time there. Good luck!

  45. Agyasi Ampah April 27, 2015 at 5:14 pm #

    Hi John,
passed your 30 question exam, missed 6 purely from lack of concentration.
I have my ADM 201 exam tomorrow and feeling more confident.

Q27. ensuring logins from company premises and through VPN..

why is Trusted IP Ranges wrong

    • JohnCoppedge April 27, 2015 at 5:50 pm #

Trusted IP ranges does not prevent login access – it removes the need for computer activation and security tokens. Login IP ranges prevents access.

Are “Recommendations” considered a feature in Chatter?

  47. Megha Sapra March 25, 2015 at 5:53 pm #

I got 1 question wrong Question 19. I chose “Create separate profiles for the product and service teams” but your answer says “Create sharing rule”.

does this question mean that Sales team should be able to see Service team opportunities?

    • JohnCoppedge March 26, 2015 at 4:25 pm #

The questions are displayed in random order so unfortunately I don’t know which question you are referring to- can you recall the question itself?

      • Megha Sapra March 26, 2015 at 4:50 pm #

Question: Your organization’s sales team is split into two functional units: product sales and service sales. Members of the product sales team must be able view opportunities owned by other users in their department. However, each user within the service sales team should only be able to view the opportunities that they own.

      • Jim Mitchell March 26, 2015 at 4:57 pm #

I believe Megha is referring to this question:

Your organization’s sales team is split into two functional units: product sales and service sales. Members of the product sales team must be able view opportunities owned by other users in their department. However, each user within the service sales team should only be able to view the opportunities that they own.

Creating a sharing rule would be the correct answer, since the product and service teams are already setup under separate profiles by the statement “IS split into two functional units.” This is one of the “gotchas” to be wary of.

        • Megha Sapra March 26, 2015 at 5:04 pm #

          Thanks Jim for clarifying.

          • JohnCoppedge March 26, 2015 at 5:46 pm #

Thanks Jiim- I wouldn’t make the assumption that they are two different profiles necessarily, but I can tell you are thinking the right way about the question. The heart of the question is that it is deriving record level security, versus object level security. The assumption is that functional groups of users have access to read the opportunity object (via profile permission set). However, the way an admin prevents one team from accessing the records of another team is via the use of the role hierarchy and sharing rules. Profile/permission set would allow you to prevent them from accessing the opportunity object, but not control which opportunities they can view. Hope that helps!

Hi John, I have my cert exam on 9th and your website has been a great help. Worth every penny I paid for.
I just took this test for the first time and scored – You scored 26 correct out of 30 questions – 86.67% correct

Now, my question – any last minute important notes that I can refer to? Especially since my test will be based on winter ’15 – any important changes that I must go through?

    • JohnCoppedge March 6, 2015 at 2:14 pm #

You can review the winter 15 release notes and training. I would do a final pass through all of the objectives, other than that I suspect with that score you are well positioned to pass. Good luck!

Hi John – In the explanation for the question about Chatter, you are stating that “Chatter is enabled org-wide and cannot be turned off on a per-profile or per-user basis.” However, a profile-based roll out of Chatter is possible as described under “Set Up Chatter” ( https://help.salesforce.com/HTViewHelpDoc?id=collab_setting_up.htm&language=en_US).

    Thanks in advance.

    • JohnCoppedge March 3, 2015 at 6:15 pm #

Sanity check here re: Question 19:

Can Judy not delete Jim’s opportunities because while OWD is set to Public Read-Write, DELETE and other CRED/CRUD permissions are determined within the PROFILE , and because Judy is under Jim in the Hierarchy, she can’t delete his opportunity?

Second question, which I admit is probably dumb: What is the difference between “Write” (OWD) and “Create” (Profile)?

    • Kelly Killeen January 3, 2015 at 6:39 am #

Never mind on the first part…figured this out hours ago and forgot I’d even posted it till I went through the comments.

As to the second question, I’m good on that one too.

  54. Jian Xu December 13, 2014 at 5:58 pm #

For question #8, why isn’t the answer “Configure automatic duplicate lead blocking.”. Under Setup -> Data.com administration ->duplicate management –>Duplicate Rules-> Leads, you can create rules to block duplicate leads from getting created.

  57. Alexander Goodman December 6, 2014 at 11:47 am #

Are the questions all the same each time you run the test I.e. There is only 30 questions and their order just gets reshuffled or are there more than 30 but I just happen to get 30 the exact same as I jumped from 66.69% to 93% though just remembering some of the answers. Also, if the former is true, then would it be possible to add some more questions to the randomiser in case of repeated use of the test?

    • JohnCoppedge December 8, 2014 at 3:57 pm #

Yes they are the same – currently 30 total questions. Will likely expand in the future.

John just wanted to comment to say I’ve been using your site for about 2 months now and my 201 exam is tomorrow.
It’s been a god send to be honest, as it’s so hard to find current and good revision material online – I was taking loads of practice quizzes and tests but some were years out of date and were just confusing me! Thankfully I created a linkedin account and some lovely person took their time to advise me to come to your site.
100% agree with some other comments about having more test exams, longer ones with more complicated questions. Also it would be great if you could re-take the test exam at the end of each section or just the one at the end and it refreshes to ask different questions.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow and thanks again.

    Hi John

I just took the practice exam (again). Just noticed that the number of wrong answers is summary results don’t match with the Q&A section. I don’t know if summary is wrong or the Q&A section. “”You scored 26 correct out of 30 questions – 86.67% correct.”” I can’t see 4 wrong answers in Q&A. I have taken screen shots to be sure and if you want I can send them to you.

    Thanks

I think it would be really useful to have a few more sample papers. The questions in here are worded to not cause confusion for the user. However the actual exam has questions which set out to confuse and I think that it would be a great addition to have more on here, so that you can test yourself against these types of questions. I find a lot of past papers online but they usually contain the wrong answers, totally end up throwing you off.

Will plan to expand when I have time – I know this is a common request. One good alternative is to google for questions, but you WILL need to double check the answers.

  67. Murali Lakshman August 16, 2014 at 3:16 am #

I am not sure of the answer to this question in the practice test:
A custom field “Primary Competitor” (Lookup Relationship to Account) has been added to the account object. The marketing team would like to be able to run a report of all accounts, with their primary competitor’s website URL (this is stored in the “Website” standard field on competitor’s account record).

Standard report types include the “Primary Competitor” field, but do not include the primary competitor’s website. How can the marketing team generate a report with the primary competitor’s website URL included? (Select 2 answers)

    Create a custom report type.
Change the report settings to include additional fields.
Add a custom summary formula field to the report.
Create a cross-object formula on the account object.

It says answer is “a” and “‘d”, but I don’t think you need “a”,i.e. custom report type. Just creating a cross object formula should suffice. I just created a Tabular report with Primary Competitor’s website field by creating a lookup on Account to competitor’s Account and creating a cross-object formula field on Account for the website URL. Once I did these two things, I did not need to create a custom report type. Just a standard Account Report did the job. Just added the two fields (“Primary Competitor” and “Competitor’s URL” to the report.

    • JohnCoppedge August 19, 2014 at 2:46 pm #

      Hi Murali,

You are absolutely correct – a cross object formula alone would solve the issue. A custom report type would ALSO solve this scenario (without the use of a formula field) – which was the intention of the question. Hope that clarifies!

      • Berglind Heath-Smith September 11, 2014 at 9:59 am #

This foxed me – why a CROSS-OBJECT formula at all, if the competitor fields are already on the account object? Is this a gotcha in that it mentions the competitor’s account record? In which case the record is the same object again, just a different type, not a different object.
What am I missing please? Exam in 3 1/2 hours…..!!!

        • JohnCoppedge September 11, 2014 at 1:27 pm #

Either a or d would solve the problem – both are not required. In order to reference the field in a report through a lookup relationship (e.g. Primary_Competitor__r.Website – the primary competitor’s website), you would need a formula field OR a custom report type (the CRT would allow you to pull the field in from the related object as well, but only in a reporting context.

          • Amrish Kaushik January 26, 2015 at 6:11 am #

            Hi John
I have the same question as Berglind. The question states that both the “Primary Competitor” and “Website” fields are on the Account object. So how is cross object formula correct?
“A custom field “Primary Competitor” (Lookup Relationship to Account) has been added to the account object. The marketing team would like to be able to run a report of all accounts, with their primary competitor’s website URL (this is stored in the “Website” standard field on competitor’s account record).”

          • JohnCoppedge January 26, 2015 at 3:37 pm #

You are pulling the website field from the record via the primary competitor relationship field. Therefore when you create a cross-object formula you are simply referencing the account from the account.

            Think of it this way:

            I have 2 account records:
            1. Salesforce.com (website: salesforce.com)
            2. Microsoft (website: microsoft.com)

On the Salesforce.com account record, I have Microsoft listed as the primary competitor. The Salesforce.com account record lists the website as “Salesforce.com” -but I want to display the competitors website on that same record (or within the report).

            E.g.

            Salesforce.com – website; Salesforce.com / Competitor: Microsoft / Competitor website: microsoft.com

The competitor website in this scenario is a cross-object formula from the account to the account; it is referencing the data on a different account record.

            Hope that helps.

            Cheers,

            John

John – good practice exam! I scored an 83% on my first try.

There is a question with an answer that conflicts with information elsewhere on this site.

    In the Activities Overview section:

“Events are moved from “Open Activities” to “Activity History” when the end date of the event is in the past. For instance, if an event starts at 1:00PM and ends at 1:30PM, then it will appear under open activities until 1:30PM, and will appear in activity history after 1:30PM.”

    The question:

When do activities appear under the “Activity History” section of the page? (Select 2 answers)

Once the event status is complete. (indicated as a correct answer)
Once the task status is complete.
Once the task due date is passed.
Once the start time of the event has passed. (indicated as a correct answer)

The second answer is not going to be correct 100% of the time, because when an event has started but is not yet completed, the event appears as Open and not part of the activity history.

    • JohnCoppedge May 16, 2014 at 6:56 pm #

Thanks Andrew. I’ve corrected this – once the START time is passed, an event will appear in activity history.

I think this page from the SF Help and Training site suggests a different answer for the following question?

    21. Which of the following permissions is required to access data in Salesforce via the Data Loader?

    Modify All Data
    View All Data
    API Enabled
    View Setup and Configuration
The Data Loader accesses data in Salesforce using the API – therefore, the “API Enabled” permission is required.
It is possible to have a non-system administrator update data via the API (including the Data Loader), although the average user will likely not be presented the option to download the Data Loader through the setup interface.

Without Modify Al Data permission you can’t use the Data Loader at all according to the page below? Also, I can’t find where it says that the API Enabled permission must be checked to ACCESS data via the Data Loader? Can you post that in reply?

Ron – notice that it says to “access the download page” you need view/modify all data. If you found the installer elsewhere you’d fall in the “to use the dataloader” portion of the table in this help doc.

That page of SF documentation needs to be updated; the data loader is an application and is using the API to access data. Check this page out: http://wiki.developerforce.com/page/Data_Loader

      Great questions. Cheers,

      John

    Hi John,

Thank you for making this wonderful site. I have registered on this site to get full access and I must say, it is really helpful for the ones preparing for Sales force ADM 201. I will be appearing for ADM 201 exam tomorrow and was looking for some more Exam questions. I went through 30 questions listed on certified on demand site but those are not enough, Do you by any chance have FULL LENGTH TEST (60 Question)?. If you add more unique questions to this site it would really help exam takers to prepare themselves and gain confidence.

      Hi Komal,

Thanks for the feedback, I’m glad the site is helping. I do not currently have a full length exam, although I am considering it for the future. If you go through the quizzes in each section in addition to the final quiz, you should have good overall coverage. Good luck on the exam!

      Cheers,

      John

    John,

Can you just review the answer to question # 22, is it Judy can’t or Judy can. Judy can not delete Jim’s opportunities is the right answer. Isn’t it??

    • JohnCoppedge February 19, 2014 at 5:41 am #

Correct- the question was a double negative. Which answer is NOT correct? You’ve got it!

  81. Derek Brooks February 7, 2014 at 4:07 pm #

Is there a way to go back and review previous test results to see the areas that need attention? Thanks – Derek

    • JohnCoppedge February 10, 2014 at 3:10 am #

Hi Derek – currently, no. I’ll keep that in mind as a request for the future though.

  82. Elizabeth Shephard February 7, 2014 at 3:32 pm #

Please check your grammar on question 10.

    • JohnCoppedge February 10, 2014 at 3:09 am #

The questions are randomized – any idea what the content of the question was?

  83. Andrew Cates February 6, 2014 at 4:25 pm #

    Hi John,

It’s been a week, my session is still not fixed and giving me the same error, and I’d like to be able to take the practice exam. Can you please advise?

Love the rest of the site, but this is disappointing.

    Andy

    • JohnCoppedge February 10, 2014 at 2:40 am #

      Hi Andrew,

Sorry for the delayed reply – yes I am fixing this issue and should have something shortly.

    • JohnCoppedge February 10, 2014 at 3:18 am #

Hi Andrew – this should be corrected now. I removed the time limit, which should allow you to complete/retake the exam.

  84. Sue Monk February 4, 2014 at 9:56 pm #

    Hi John
I am still receiving the following message:
This is a half-length exam (30 questions). The makeup of questions should represent a similar concentration of each topic as you will find on the real exam.
Warning: your unfinished attempt was recorded. You ran out of time and your answers will be submitted automatically.
This exam must be completed in 0 minutes. Click here to start the exam

Are you able to reset so that I can take the practice test?
    Thanks

    • JohnCoppedge February 10, 2014 at 3:21 am #

Hi Sue – sorry about this and the delayed reply. I’ve had an incredibly busy last few weeks. This should be fixed now, please let me know if you still have any problems.

  85. Sue Monk February 4, 2014 at 10:44 am #

    Hi John
I had to stop the practice exam – had visitors arrive just as I started!
Is it possible to re-take it from the start?
    Thanks.

    • JohnCoppedge February 10, 2014 at 3:28 am #

Hi Sue- you should be able to continue where you left off now – apologies on the delayed reply.

  86. Andrew Cates January 30, 2014 at 9:12 pm #

Ditto – same as the 4 ahead of me – I had to close my laptop partway through, and then when I re-opened the exam clock had started at the closing time, so I simply kept going, only to be told after the final question that I had exceeded the allotted time. New code update? Thanks for the help.

  87. miggie ediae January 23, 2014 at 4:25 pm #

    Hi John,
I am unable to take the practice test a second time, as it keeps locking me out. I took it once before but did not complete the test.
Please could you look into this for me. Thanks.

    • kimberly dale January 24, 2014 at 7:50 am #

I also can’t retake the practice test that I started earlier today but didn’t have time to complete. Please check this. Thank you.

    • JohnCoppedge January 26, 2014 at 5:03 pm #

What is the message when you are locked out? I will check the exam settings – you should be able to retake as soon as the exam timer completes.

      • miggie ediae January 26, 2014 at 8:31 pm #

Could you remove comments below exam *questions*? Distracting to see a thread below every question as you go through the exam.

  89. Roger Solin January 14, 2014 at 9:45 pm #

Similar to Anita’s experience, my score was not calculated correctly.

    • JohnCoppedge January 16, 2014 at 11:30 pm #

Thanks Roger – checking this out again. I may need to replace the plugin… but that would loose the category-based scoring. Will see what I can come up with.

  90. Yuri Metien January 12, 2014 at 11:35 pm #

    hi John ,

Is it possible that if you click on a box, and later change your mind, and click on it again, so you can click another answer , the test doesn’t update this ?
I got a couple mistakes attributed, where I’d swear i clicked the right answer, but know that I changed the answer on at least one occaision.

Btw, I love the site. And if anything, If anything can be improved I’d be even more greatful for more practice questions.
    Great job !

    • JohnCoppedge January 14, 2014 at 1:00 am #

Hi Yuri – it is possible there is a glitch with the test plugin. However, I just tested it and it worked OK for me (accepting the updated answers). If anyone else has this issue please reply to this thread and I will investigate further.

Thanks for the feedback on the site – I’ll definitely consider adding new questions (this is a common request)! Cheers,

      John

  91. Glenda Clark January 11, 2014 at 12:49 am #

Thanks for adding the checks next to the correct answers!!!

  92. Matt Bos January 4, 2014 at 1:21 am #

My final score mistakenly marked a question I got wrong as correct. I think it was due to the fact that it was a multiple choice question in which I got 1 out of the 2 answers wrong.

  93. anita ramirez December 17, 2013 at 1:03 am #

    thanks. Trying again now.

  94. anita ramirez December 16, 2013 at 2:19 am #

According to my results I only got one wrong; however, the stats say I got 19 correct out of 30 questions and that I failed with a 63.3%. ?? Hmm

    • JohnCoppedge December 16, 2013 at 3:58 pm #

Weird. Tested and it worked fine for me – but I can see where your quiz results are not reporting correctly. I’ll have to dig deeper. Thanks for pointing this out.

    • JohnCoppedge December 16, 2013 at 4:42 pm #

This should now be resolved. Apologies for the confusion!
