[Could / Short / Salesforce.com]
There are 3 types of Chatter Groups: Public, Private, and Unlisted. Public groups can be seen and joined without permission by all users, private groups require permission to join but can be seen by all users, while unlisted groups are not displayed to all users (only seen by administrative users and group members; users cannot request to join, they must be added by a group manager).

Public and Private Groups are available by default, while Unlisted Groups must be enabled (available as of Winter 15 Release).

    Hi,
Can any one please confirm the answer for this Chatter Feature?

Which is a feature of Chatter? Choose 3 answers
    A. Events
    B. Notes
    C. Bookmarks
    D. Recommendations
    E. Feeds

I think it is Bookmarks, Recommendations and Feeds (C, D, E).

In some flash Cards in various places ‘Notes’ is also mentioned as a feature of Chatter, I could not find ‘Chatter Features’ info in the Chatter Section. Please Help!!

    Thank you

Hello, this video (the first link) does not work any more: https://vimeo.com/13274719
Error: Sorry, we couldn’t find that page
Reasons you might be seeing this page
It exists, but you don’t have permission to see it, or you need to log in.
Nothing has ever existed here. Spooky.
Something once lived here, but has been deleted.
The best thing is that it worked yesterday..

    Hello.

does chatter work with a dev account or do you need to be part of a real ORG?

    • nicholas October 24, 2017 at 6:07 pm #

it works on a dev account

  6. mengqinas June 12, 2017 at 6:15 pm #

Under KEY FACTS: private groups require permission to join but can be seen by all users. My understanding is private groups can NOT be seen by all users, it can be seen by private group members and Users with the “Modify All Data” and “View All Data” permission. Isn’t it?

    • JohnCoppedge June 14, 2017 at 12:32 pm #

With private groups, you can see that the group exists, but you can’t join it without permission of the group owner.

Do you want to mention that Topics aren’t available in Lightning? Just a thought because I was a little confused. Thanks.

    Heya,
found this Q, but I’m bit desperate ’cause of the answers:

Which is a feature of Chatter? (3 answers)
    a. Feeds
    b. Events
    c. Bookmarks
    d. Recommendations
    e. Notes

They have marked a), d), and e) as correct. As I know Bookmarks is a feature as well, isn’t it? Help appreciated. THX!

    • JohnCoppedge February 23, 2017 at 8:44 pm #

Bookmarks is yes- the question is incorreect

      • DeeJay01 March 15, 2017 at 2:14 pm #

a,c,d is correct answer. John – Notes and Events are not part of Chatter ? right

Hi John, Can you please explain difference between topics and tags? Thanks in advance, Anna

    • ania.sredyn@gmail.com January 21, 2017 at 5:57 pm #

I meant rather business cases for both of them.

      • JohnCoppedge January 26, 2017 at 7:24 pm #

Topics are used to create linkages between different conversations in chatter- very similar to twitter #topics. Users can then click in the topics to get views of chatter posts and records associated with those topics.

Tags does something similar but without the use of Chatter – users have to add the tags to individual records.

Generally speaking topics would be used much more commonly than tags (which could be considered a “legacy” feature).

Why you would use either: to group records together that don’t have an a) easy data point to do so b) are on different objects) and/or c) you want to give users the ability to create the groupings. For example you might have a group of users that are discussing a marketing event (#Dreamforce17 maybe…) – and they could carry on a conversation in Chatter about the event, while including that topic on various records where relevant (contacts, opportunities, campaigns, etc.)

    • JohnCoppedge December 22, 2016 at 7:37 pm #

Just checked it – seems to work

      • nicholas December 23, 2016 at 5:31 pm #

You are correct, apologies! I run an oddball browser (Vivaldi) but it works just fine when I open it in Chrome.

      • nicholas January 1, 2017 at 4:04 pm #

Turns out I had updated the browser and it was waiting for me to close it and reopen it. Everything was playing fine in Vivaldi the other day.

In other news, I passed the admin test on Friday! Thanks for your course.

    Hi John,

It appears Chatter Messenger has been phased out? From the link you posted:

“A few considerations apply to using Chatter Messenger:

    – Chatter Messenger is not available in new orgs created after the Spring ’16 release.”

    More info: https://docs.releasenotes.salesforce.com/en-us/spring16/release-notes/rn_chatter_messenger_eol.htm

    Cheers,

    Jérôme

    • milen.kisov July 24, 2016 at 7:24 pm #

Yup, Chatter Messenger is a legacy feature as is Chatter Answers for that matter. Chatter Answers was replaced by Chatter Questions. John, you might want to update the information about this.

Hi John, broken link: Chatter Editions and Pricing

  13. walid97 June 16, 2016 at 4:01 pm #

Hi John, the study guide has Chatter at 1% only, whereas this section has A LOT of information! I mean it is too long for a 1% exam weight… please advise.

    • JohnCoppedge June 20, 2016 at 9:42 pm #

Content here touches on other areas in the system… I don’t think 1% is really a fair representation.

  14. sixstringsin May 15, 2016 at 7:00 pm #

Hi John, the link for “Chatter Editions and Pricing” is pointing to a dead link.

  15. samirdhruva May 13, 2016 at 3:10 am #

John, The “Chatter Editions and Pricing” link needs to be corrected.

  16. soraya.attia@papilioconsulting.be November 9, 2015 at 5:44 pm #

John, the same is valid for “How Sidebar Search Works”, the link is not working.

  17. soraya.attia@papilioconsulting.be November 9, 2015 at 5:29 pm #

    Hi John,
The link to “How Global Search Works” is not working. I think it is replaced by “Search”:
    https://help.salesforce.com/HTViewHelpDoc?id=search_how_search_works.htm&language=en_US
    Can you confirm?
Anyway, it is an interesting link containing a few videos.

I wanted to try File Sync, because I didn’t know it, but I cannot find where to activate it. Is it still available?

  23. Stan Pittman March 10, 2015 at 1:11 am #

In the “Explain the capabilities of Chatter Groups.” topic, the Key Facts text reads: “…unlisted groups are not displayed to all users (only seen by administrative users and group members; users <> request to join, they must be added by a group manager).” See brackets.

Should it read “cannot request to join”?

  24. Flavia Mich February 11, 2015 at 3:55 am #

Did you remove the “Chatter Messenger FAQ” section? I can’t find it anywhere.

  25. Flavia Mich February 10, 2015 at 6:35 am #

“Chatter Messenger FAQ” doesn’t show the FAQ list.

  26. Eduardo Aguirre January 2, 2015 at 4:36 pm #

Under : Explain the capabilities of Chatter Groups, Key facts, Unlisted Group, this sentence sounds incorrect: users can cannot request to join, they must be added by a group manager

I think you mean to say User cannot request to join, they must be added by a group manager

  27. Vidya B December 25, 2014 at 5:26 am #

Section – Release Training Winter ’15 – [Should / 1m / Salesforce.com]- Click on “Play Now” under Service Cloud, and watch “What is Chatter Answers?”
I could only see the topic as “What is Chatter Questions?” and not “What is Chatter Answers?”

  28. Alex Messinger December 4, 2014 at 9:14 pm #

Maybe this could be clarified with the text in caps– I thought ‘record’ referred to the Chatter record

Important note: Creating a Chatter post with a #topic inline on ON THE POST (#1 above) does not associate the PARENT RECORD to the topic. You must specifically specify the topic on the record itself.

    • JohnCoppedge December 5, 2014 at 3:35 am #

I see your point, but I could also see adding the term “parent” confusing things as well. That’s why I provided an example – its a bit hard to use words to describe… might add a screenshot in the future. Keep in mind Chatter is a tiny part of the exam as well though…

  29. Alex Messinger November 22, 2014 at 10:40 pm #

At the end of the “Salesforce Topics in Spring 14” video, the narrator says that adding topics to a view allows you to see records from any other object in that view (if it is tagged with the same topic). That doesn’t seem right. You wouldn’t have consistent column headings.

    • JohnCoppedge November 23, 2014 at 2:38 am #

You get a drop down menu per object on the topic view – you have to select the object type to view the related records.

“Chatter Search” is really “Smart Search”, which touches on Chatter. (Would be helpful to rename to “Smart Search”, IMHO. Thanks!
