    Hi John,

Struggling a bit with following the instructional videos in classic and using lightning. Is classic being phased out? Anyway maybe a suggestion is to have the steps in lightning (text) as well as the videos.

Have gone about this as follows in lightening: setup > apps > app manager> new lightening app .

1.) Documents tab is not supported in lightening so I have just uploaded an image directly from my desktop. How do we allow access to this image in lightening?

2.) When creating the app I assigned it to my inside sales rep profile however when I log in the UI has not changed?

    Thanks John

Classic is not likely to be phased out any time soon – there are a lot of things that you can’t do in Lightning still and will require you to switch back to Classic. I am in the process of updating materials to Lightning however.

To update documents you will likely need to switch to classic.

When you logged in as the user, did you switch to the application that you created?

    Hi John,

You created a custom sales app so you could change the company logo but the standard sales app was still available in the app picker. Is there a way to make a standard application hidden from users? I believe that the functionality of each app would be exactly the same so there doesn’t appear to be an issue if a user selected one sales app over the other but just for the sake of cleaning up the list of apps, is this possible?

    Hi

Thank you for the material, however:

I do not understand the benefits of using a ‘Standard Application’ when Custom Apps, especially in Lightning, are so easy to create?

    Please explain.

    Kind Regards,

Most of the time you will end using custom applications- that’s also discussed in the materials

How an Organization is different than an Application is Sales force? For e:g I create a Company/Originization called ABC .. will there be many application under Company ABC?

Application (e.g. sales) determines the tabs at the top of the screen

Tab (e.g. account) exposes the object

ABC company is a record under the object

    Hi John,

If you uploaded multiple images into a document folder and wanted to move them to a new document folder, is there a way to move the files all at once?

I don’t think so – likely via the API (data loader) but I don’t think there’s a quick transfer function in the docs folder.

    Hello John,

I checked the ‘Overwrite users’ personal tab customizations’ checkbox under Tab settings for a custom profile and saved my changes and profiles tab settings were overwritten. However the next time I pull the profile record for editing the checkbox is unchecked. Is this an expected behavior? Should it not retain my selection?

    Regards,
    Gautam.

I do believe th override profile setting for tabs resets the users default setting once at that time and not on an ongoing basis – will see if I can find supporting docs to confirm.

John – I got lost on the piece bout creating a “new” app to have the company logo appear… Seemed to be ok up until accessing the “new” app to see the logo on the home screen. Any ideas?
    Thanks – Tom

When you create/modify an application you can specify the logo. When the app is selected, that logo will appear in the top left of the screen (where the salesforce icon is typically)- try adding an image, you’ll see 🙂

    hi john,
Im In big trouble i gusess…:(
i started learning saelsforce by last week , and tried to make one app.
everything was goin good till i got idea hat i made big mistake while i was making objects for app.
by mistake i made that object in some other app(i.e. also custom app)
and then i m trying to remove it then its prompting me msg that i have that object related to other object so i can not delete it
but yes i understand why it show me that error ,i m scared here that when i delete that object …then i have same object in my currently working app.
so what should i do at that point..
Want to clear one more thing is like in this practice application i was working on warehouse application
in that i had 3 objects
i.e. merchandise, invoice and line item
that was my current app(learning sForce)
but i was trying bfore to work on with recruitment app
and that also i done till middle of it
till the junction object topic arrive.
and by mistake i made line item on that also(i.e. on recruitment)
    it was unknowingly
i really dont know when i did that..
so trying to get rid of that line item from recruitment
but its showing me related with some other app
    so not able to delete
tel me if some short solution for my long and silly problem.

You should be able to delete the objects – it should tell you where the object is referenced if it prevents deletion. Then remove that reference.

When you remove a reference dependency, you also need to empty that from your deleted items (look at the bottom of the list of fields/objects).

    I would add 2 notes:

    1. If horizontal space doesn’t allow for all Default On tabs to appear, instead of a horizontal scrollbar, the rightmost ones disappear behind the (+) icon.

    2. It’s somewhat counter-intuitive that the set of tabs is defined by the app, but what tabs are on/off/hidden is defined by the profile or permission set. This means that you cannot create two apps for the same profile with different tabs hidden by default. E.g. sales manager might want Inside Sales app and Outside Sales app, where Inside Sales has Leads Default On, but Outside Sales doesn’t. Not possible, right?

    Thanks,
    Kaira

      Good point on #1

Regarding #2 – correct, and I can see how that would be counter-intuitive. I found the fact that the application had no impact on security very counter-intuitive when I started as well.
